On 6th August 1997, on the occasion of its 19th foundation day, Dal Khalsa counsel wrote a letter to Indian Home Minister declaring the revival of the organization as a political group in Punjab after being on a low for a decade and so. Fortunately, the ban imposed on the organization in 1982 was lapsed in 1994. The comeback was not easy for the organization that nurture ambition to establish sovereign self-rule for Sikhs and whose leader is perceived to be “guest” of unfriendly country.

Patiala, Punjab (March 19, 2012): As per recent media reports, the Central Jail, Patiala authorities have returned the "balck or death warrant" of Chandigarh Court directing execution of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana on March 31, 2012. The authorities are reproted to have pleaded their inability to execute the hanging orders since the death sentence was awarded to Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana by a court whose jurisdiction falls outside the State of Punjab. It is notable that Chandigarh is a territory that is under the control of Central Government of India.

Patiala, Punjab (March 16, 2012): As per media reports dated March 15, 2012 the Punjab Jails Department has refused to execute the order of a Chandigarh court asking the Patiala Central Jail authorities to hang former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh’s assassin Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, claiming that Punjab has no such understanding with the Chandigarh Administration. At present, Balwant Singh Rajoana is lodged in the Patiala jail.

Amritsar, Punjab (February 28, 2012): After detention of more than two years Sikh political leader Bhai Daljit Singh, Chairman of Akali Dal Panch Pardhani, is released from Central Jail, Amritsar. He was welcomed by many prominent Sikh personalities, leaders, representatives of various Sikh organizations and Sikhs outside Amritsar Jail. Bhai Daljeet Singh was considered to be ideological leader of Sikh struggle from times of Sikh militant movement of 1980s-90s. He headed Sikh Students Federation in late 1980s to early 1990s and was one of the five members of Panthic Committee.
