Sikh Coalition Announces “National Sikh Voter Registration Day” and New GOTV Resources for 2026

Washington, D.C.- In preparation for the upcoming November midterm elections, the Sikh Coalition has designated Sunday, September 20, 2026, as National Sikh Voter Registration Day. The initiative aims to mobilize Sikh Americans across the country to verify their voter registration status and actively participate in the civic process.

The Sikh Coalition, a non-profit and non-partisan organization, is calling upon gurdwaras nationwide to host registration drives and ensure their sangat (congregation) members are ready for the polls.

The Sikh Coalition is a community based organization that works towards the realization of civil and human rights for all people.

To support this nationwide effort, the Sikh Coalition has launched a suite of resources and volunteer opportunities aimed at increasing Sikh civic engagement:

  • GOTV Center: The organization has updated its ‘Get Out The Vote’ (GOTV) online portal, accessible at thesikh.co/GOTV-2026. The tool allows voters to check their registration status, review upcoming election deadlines (including early and absentee voting details), and research candidates on their local ballots.

  • Call for Volunteers (Sevadaars): The Coalition is actively recruiting volunteers to assist with nonpartisan GOTV efforts. Opportunities include writing postcards to Sikh voters, participating in phone banking, and facilitating voter registration at local gurdwaras. Interested individuals can contact community@sikhcoalition.org to participate.

  • Multilingual Resources: To bridge language barriers, the Sikh Coalition has developed informational flyers in both English and Punjabi. These materials are designed for distribution at gurdwaras and Punjabi-owned businesses. A specialized flyer focusing on the national nonpartisan election interference hotline (866-OUR-VOTE) has also been translated into Punjabi. Additionally, a bilingual ‘Know Your Rights’ document is available for community members.

  • 2026 GOTV Fellows: The Coalition recently welcomed its 2026 cohort of GOTV Fellows. These young leaders, based in North Carolina, New Jersey, Wisconsin, and Michigan, will spearhead local initiatives focusing on voter registration, education, and civic engagement within their respective communities over the coming months.

The Sikh Coalition maintains a strict non-partisan stance, emphasizing that the goal is to ensure Sikhs of all political affiliations make their voices heard. The organization plans to release further resources via email, WhatsApp, and social media leading up to Election Day on November 3.
