New Delhi: Scottish Sikh Jagtar Singh alias Jaggi Johal has been granted bail in all seven cases that remained pending against him, his counsel Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said today.
Sharing the information with Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, head of Panjaab Lawyers, said that the High Court had granted bail to Jagtar Singh Jaggi Johal in all seven remaining cases.
Following today’s development, Johal is expected to be released from Tihar Jail after the required bail bonds are furnished and other legal formalities are completed. The process is expected to take place over the coming days.
Jagtar Singh Johal was arrested on November 4, 2017. According to information shared by his counsel in March 2022, Johal was booked in a total of 11 cases following his arrest. At that stage, he had been discharged in one case and granted bail in three others, while bail applications in seven cases remained pending.
In March 2022, the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted Johal bail in case RC/24/2017/NIA. The case was registered under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code and various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The National Investigation Agency later approached the Supreme Court of India seeking cancellation of the bail granted in that case. On August 8, 2023, the Supreme Court dismissed the NIA’s appeal and upheld the High Court’s bail order. Despite securing bail in that case, Johal could not be released at the time because several other cases against him were still pending.
With bail now granted in all seven remaining cases, the legal hurdle preventing Johal’s release appears to have been cleared, subject to the furnishing and acceptance of bail bonds and completion of the necessary formalities.
