Mohali: Misl Satluj Party President S. Ajaypal Singh Brar has expressed serious concern over the long-pending issue of reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Backward Classes (BC) in teaching posts at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana. He has urged the Punjab Government and the university administration to end the prolonged delays and take a clear, transparent and time-bound decision in accordance with the applicable rules.
S. Ajaypal Singh Brar said that candidates belonging to the SC and BC communities have been demanding their due rights in teaching posts at Punjab Agricultural University for a long time. However, the failure to find a permanent solution to this issue remains a matter of serious concern. He recalled that in 2016, a protest was held outside the university gates for more than a month over the same issue. Despite written assurances given at that time, the matter remains unresolved nearly a decade later, raising serious questions about the accountability of the university administration.
He stated that reservation is neither charity nor a favour, but a constitutional right. According to him, delays in ensuring these rights also reflect a lack of due attention to the concerns of the affected communities. He urged the university administration to take concrete steps towards resolving the issue rather than allowing it to remain pending indefinitely.
The Misl Satluj President said that Punjab Agricultural University is one of the state’s leading institutions of higher education and is expected to uphold and strengthen the principles of social justice, equal opportunities and adequate representation. He emphasised that the issue of SC and BC representation in teaching posts is not limited to employment alone but is also linked to educational opportunities for students and public confidence in the institution.
S. Brar further stated that if there are any legal, administrative or technical obstacles preventing the resolution of this issue, the university administration should publicly clarify them. He stressed that the affected communities now need a clear decision and its effective implementation rather than further assurances.
He urged the Punjab Government and the Punjab Agricultural University administration to consider all relevant facts and applicable rules concerning the issue of SC and BC reservation and take a transparent, time-bound decision. He said that a matter that has remained unresolved for nearly a decade should not be allowed to remain in uncertainty any longer.
