ROPAR, PUNJAB — Seven-year-old Teghbir Singh, a young mountaineering prodigy from Ropar, Punjab, has etched his name in history by becoming the youngest person in the world to successfully summit a mountain peak above 6,000 meters.

At the remarkable age of 7 years and 10 months, Teghbir successfully scaled Mount Yunam, a prominent trekking peak situated in the Zanskar Range of Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul region.

With this monumental achievement, Teghbir shattered the previous global record held by Mumbai’s Kaamya Karthikeyan. Karthikeyan had previously set the benchmark by summiting a 6,000+ meter peak at the age of 9 years and 11 months in August 2017.

Currently a third-standard student at Shiwalik Public School in Ropar, Teghbir’s journey to the summit required immense endurance and preparation. He officially began his high-altitude expedition on July 7. Battling low oxygen levels and freezing temperatures, the young climber pushed forward for nearly a week, finally reaching the summit of Mount Yunam on July 13 (Wednesday).

This latest triumph adds a third world record to Teghbir’s already impressive portfolio of mountaineering feats, further establishing him as one of the most promising young adventure athletes globally.
