Family and Local Business to Hold Press Conference for US Citizen Imprisoned in India

Ravinder Singh Gogi, American Citizen and owner of Dasmesh Truck Driving School in Lathrop, is being held as a political prisoner at the Ludhiana Jail in Punjab, India. His family and fellow business owners are demanding his release from police custody and will be holding a press conference on Friday, March 6 2015 at the Lathrop District Chamber of Commerce at 15104 South Harlan Road, Lathrop, CA 95330.

The World Sikh Organization of Canada is disappointed by the Government of India’s decision to ban the documentary India's Daughter about the savage 2012 gang rape and murder of a student in Delhi. The documentary explores the culture of rape in India as well as the background and mindset of the perpetrators of the 2012 crime that shook the country.

Various political parties held 'political conferences' at Anandpur Sahib on March 5 - second day of 3 day Holla-Mohalla celebrations. Whereas the faction ridden Congress party decided not to hold conference at Anandpur Sahib, the ruling party Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal)'s conference received lesser attendance as compared to previous years.

Dr. Sewak Singh is Associate Professor of Religion at Eternal University, Baru Sahib. He talked to Sikh Siyasat's editor Parmjeet Singh Gazi on contemporary conditions of Punjabi language in foreign countries. He also discussed challenges faced by those engaged in promotion of Punjabi language amongst next generations of Punjabis in foreign countries.
