Lok Sabha Election 2014 – Campaign ends in Punjab; Polling on April 30; 1.95 cr. Voters, 253 contestants

Ludhiana, Punjab (April 28, 2014): The election campaign for the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab came to an end today. Polling shall be held on April 30. As per Indian Election commission records about there are about 1.95 crore registered voters in Punjab.

Sunam, Punjab (April 28, 2014): The ongoing parliamentary elections hold little meaning for many debt ridden farmers' and their families. 80-year-old Jasmail Kaur of Chhajali village of Sunam is one of them. She known that these elections cannot change her fate. According to Hindustan Times (HT), Jasmail Kaur has been living alone at her small house at since her 19-year old son Jaggi committed suicide 18 years ago.

SCORE appeal Punjabis to elect Qualified and Rightful Candidates for Indian Parliament

Washington, Untied States (April 28, 2014): A US based NGO, Sikh Council on Religion and Education (SCORE) has appealed to people of Punjab to elect candidates for Indian parliament who display qualities which would make them the rightful representatives of the state's interests. Punjab and many other states go on polls for parliament on April 30.

Hoshiarpur, Punjab (April 28, 2014): Sikh Nationalist party Dal Khalsa, on April 27, said the elections are irrelevant because New Delhi has failed to take steps to meet longstanding Sikh demands, including the release of detainees, justice for victims of 1984 genocide, punishment to guilty police officers, fulfilling greater political aspirations.
