Punjab Police’s special investigation team has granted ‘clean chit’ to the followers of controversial Noormehal Dera called Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan (DJJS) in a case related to act of arson in a Jodhpur Gurdwara Sahib and burning a saroops of Guru Granth Sahib. The incident had taken place on December 01.

Sehajdhari Issue – (1) HC issued notice to Centre, Punjab, SGPC and Gurudwara EC; next hearing on 8 Feb. (2) Why situation is so confusing?

The main reason behind static and confused situation on this issue could be the complex nature of issue, which on the one hand relates to the internal dynamics of the Sikh society (the definition of Sehajdhari and their role) and on the other hand it is related to relations of Sikhs with the Indian State (the Sikh Gurudwara Management Act, 1925; the role of Indian Parliament in Sikh religious affairs regarding amendment etc. of the 1925 Act and role of Indian courts being interpretting authority in relation to the said Act.).

British Government continue to raise concern for Professor DPS Bhullar

London, England (December 19, 2011): British Government continue to feel concerned about the plight of Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar, who is facing execution threat in India. In reply to question raised by Jonathan Ashworth, MP from Leicester South, the Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Mr Jermery Browne said, on December 19, that he had "written to the Indian high commissioner, most recently on 7 November, reiterating the UK Government's strong opposition to the death penalty and urging the Indian authorities not to break their seven-year de facto moratorium on the death penalty".
