Monumental step forward in tracking hate crimes against Sikhs: United Sikhs

Washington D.C (June 07, 2013): In a statement dated: June 05, the United Sikhs has thanked Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-NY) for his efforts to encourage the Department of Justice and FBI to begin tracking and quantifying hate crimes against Sikh, Hindu, and Arab Americans.

According to press reports, the Indian government has “concerns” about the creation of the American Sikh Congressional Caucus, such that it has “warned” the U.S. government about its very existence. These concerns appear to be grounded in the suspicion that the caucus is a front for an effectively defunct for a separate Sikh homeland called “Khalistan.” The concerns are without merit, and the caucus itself stands firmly on bedrock American principles and traditions.

Indian home minister’s Sikh militancy remarks draws flak

Ludhiana/Chandigarh (June 07, 2013): Indian Home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde's remarks that Pakistan's ISI was fanning Sikh militancy in India has drawn intense criticism from various Sikh organizations. It is learnt that various Sikh bodies have slammed the India's home minister for making such a statement and for resorting to rhetoric to create a fabricated adverse impression against Sikh political activists.

WSO statement on 29th anniversary of June 1984 attack on Darbar Sahib

Ottawa, Canada (June 06, 2013): The World Sikh Organization of Canada joined the Sikhs across the world in remembering the Indian army’s June 1984 assault on the Sri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar, Punjab. The attack took place as Sikhs gathered to commemorate the martyrdom day of the fifth Guru, Guru Arjan. In addition to the Sri Darbar Sahib complex, 38 other gurdwaras across Punjab were also attacked and thousands of innocent Sikh men women and children lost their lives.
