The release—and subsequent removal—of Diljit Dosanjh’s film “Satluj” (previously titled “Punjab 95”) from the Zee5 OTT platform has sparked widespread reactions and intense debate.
Angered by the film’s removal from Zee5 in India, many people across Punjab—particularly supporters of Sikh political parties and Sikh youth—have begun organising public screenings in villages. In some instances, the film has even been screened inside Gurdwara Sahib premises, a development that has drawn sharp criticism and rejection from many informed sections of the Sikh community.
The film has also revived public discussion on the widespread and systematic human rights abuses documented by Sikh human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. At the same time, the BJP has sought to advance a counter-narrative, led by Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu, arguing that the film presents a selective account of the period.
To examine these developments through the broader lens of narrative warfare, journalist Mandeep Singh speaks with Dr. Sewak Singh. Watch this podcast and share it with others.
