Amritsar: Bibi Navneet Kaur, wife of Bandi Singh (Sikh prisoner) Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar, has strongly reacted to the rejection of his premature release petition by the Delhi government’s Sentence Review Board (SRB). Prof. Bhullar has been incarcerated since 1995.
Expressing her disappointment, Bibi Navneet Kaur stated that she had high hopes that the government would consider his long detention and order his release this time. However, she noted that the administration has once again adopted a rigid stance, similar to previous instances, resulting in the rejection of his petition.
She emphasized that while Prof. Bhullar has been granted parole periodically—most recently visiting home in November—his permanent release remains stuck due to political reasons. Kaur lamented that the release of Prof. Bhullar depends entirely on “political will.” She criticized political parties for demanding his release while in the opposition but failing to show the necessary political will to execute it once they come into power.
