A memorial samagam was held at Delhon (near Ludhiana) on 30 May 2026 by Jatha Sikh Youth Power of Punjab. Addressing the gathering, Parmjeet Singh Gazi, Chief Editor of Sikh Siyasat, recounted and analyzed the events leading up to and following 1_9-8+4. He examined India’s internal political factors, the situation of Sikhs in India and Punjab, and the regional and international dynamics of South Asia at the time.
Reflecting on the present situation, he emphasized that many of these factors have intensified over time. According to him, the international and regional environment has become increasingly complex, unstable, and uncertain. He noted that the process of centralization of power in India has grown significantly stronger in recent years.
He further stated that, because of Punjab’s geographical and strategic location, and because of the Sikhs’ political history and their capacity to lead broad-based struggles against the centralization of power in the Indian region, both Punjab and the Sikh community have become increasingly important factors in regional developments.
In this context, he stressed that Sikhs must develop and strengthen their own mechanisms of collective decision-making and establish structures that promote united and effective leadership.
