Ropar/Amritsar: Panth Sewak personality Bhai Narien Singh Chaura was released on bail today (26 March 2025) from District Jail Ropar. He was arrested by police on December 4, 2024, after allegedly attempting to attack former Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) president Sukhbir Singh Badal outside the Ghanta Ghar side of the Darbar Sahib complex in Amritsar. Following a 12-day police remand, he was transferred to District Jail Ropar under judicial custody.

Defense lawyer Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur informed Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that Bhai Narien Singh Chaura was granted bail by the court of an Additional Sessions Judge in Amritsar on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. During the bail plea arguments, defense lawyers Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, Advocate Jagdeep Singh Randhawa, and Advocate Baljinder Singh argued that this was a “no-injury” case, noting that even the statement of the alleged victim had not been recorded. They further highlighted that a chargesheet had already been filed, and Bhai Narien Singh, a senior citizen aged approximately 70 years, had no reason to remain incarcerated during the trial.

The prosecution had submitted that Bhai Narien Singh Chaura had 28 cases registered against him. However, the defense informed the court that he had been acquitted in all 28 cases, and an affidavit from an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in this regard was presented before the court.

“The judge agreed with the defense arguments and granted bail to Bhai Narien Singh,” said Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur. “As the bail order was issued yesterday, we completed the necessary legal formalities, including furnishing bail bonds, today. Pursuant to the bail order, Bhai Narien Singh was released from jail today,” he added.

Bhai Narien Singh was received outside Ropar jail by his lawyer Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, along Bapu Gurcharan Singh, Pardeep Singh Ayali, Harnek Singh Fauji, Jaswinder Singh Kahnuwan, Lovepreet Singh Toofan and others.
