Srinagar: The Shahid Bunga Gurdwara in Burzulla area of Srinagar has emerged as a major relief center for people who have been affected by the devastating floods in the Kashmir valley.
Over 1,500 Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs and Ladakhis who have registered at the control room set up within the Gurdwara for food, shelter, medicines and being transported to the airport or to safer areas of Srinagar.
Nearly 120 school students, who were in Srinagar to take part in various tournaments, also took shelter at the Gurdwara for five days till they could be flown back home.
The hospital set-up at Gurdwara Sahib is currently taking care of around 800 to 1,000 a day, providing them with insulin injections, medicines for diarrhea, hypertension and gastroenteritis.
The rush at the Gurdwara Langar hall is offering food in batches because of heavy rush.
Various Sikh organizations, including SGPC, United Sikhs, Sikh Relief and Khalsa Aid are also involved in extending humanitarian relief in flood hit state of Jammu and Kashmir in India.
