Sikh Federation (Canada) Launches Campaign to highlight Sikh issues during 2025 Canada Election

Ottawa, Canada: As Canada approaches the 2025 federal election on April 28, the Sikh Federation (Canada) is launching a nationwide grassroots campaign to ensure that voters are well-informed about the political positions and policies of candidates and parties on key Sikh issues.

The campaign involves distributing comprehensive questionnaires to candidates in over 30 decisive ridings across Canada and publishing the results. This transparent process will highlight where candidates stand on critical issues impacting the Sikh community including anti-Sikh hate and protecting Canadian civil liberties, foreign interference and transnational repression, as well as ensuring accountability for all individuals involved in the assassination of Shaheed Bhai Hardeep Singh Nijjar or other Indian-orchestrated violence in Canada.

Through its grassroots advocacy and active engagement with stakeholders, the Sikh Federation (Canada) will also work with partner Gurdwaras across the country to ensure that candidates visiting Sikh spaces and upcoming Khalsa Day parades make their positions clear on these issues. Candidates who decline to participate will also be duly noted, ensuring the Sikh electorate is fully aware of their engagement—or lack thereof.

Upon completion, the responses will be thoroughly assessed and analyzed to inform the Sikh Federation (Canada) 2025 Election Guide, a vital resource designed to equip the community with the knowledge needed to navigate the political landscape effectively.

Bhai Moninder Singh, National Spokesperson of the Sikh Federation (Canada), said:

“India’s foreign interference in Canada has had a profound impact on the Sikh diaspora, with reports of violence, coercion, and attempts to manipulate Canadian institutions. These actions not only threaten the safety and security of Sikhs but also undermine Canada’s democratic processes and sovereignty. Furthermore, India’s transnational repression has extended to targeting Sikh activists and organizations in Canada, as well as misuse of diplomatic channels to suppress lawful advocacy for Sikh rights and self-determination.

Given the multifaceted attacks on the Sikh community in Canada, it is vital that aspiring political candidates and incumbent Members of Parliament make it clear where they stand on these critical issues impacting the Sikh diaspora and other marginalized communities across Canada.”
