JNU top panel recommends expulsion of Kanhaiya Kumar & 4 others

New Delhi: The JNU row is likely to take the central stage once against as a high level inquiry committee set up by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has recommended the expulsion five JNU students, including JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar,  PhD scholars Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya. Kanhaiya Kumar was released on interim bail on the orders of Delhi High Court while Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya are currently in judicial custody on sedition charges.

The committee was set up to probe the February 9 event on campus where alleged anti-India slogans were raised.

As per media reports four other students are likely to face suspension and a few others are to be let off with a fine.

In all, 21 students are likely to get show-cause notice as to why action should not be initiated against them, reports Times of India (TOI).

JNU vice-chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar has appraised the dean’s committee of the summary of the report and recommendations, which found these students guilty of violating the university’s rules and norms.
