Sangrur: Gurdwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha will host a formal discussion on 18 January 2026 on the subject of the portrayal of Sikh Gurus and Shaheeds in contemporary visual media and the appropriate modes of Sikh prachar (propagation).
The discussion, scheduled to be held from 11 am to 1 pm, will deliberate on why films, animation and AI-generated videos depicting Sikh Gurus, the families of Guru Sahib, Sikh Shaheeds and great Gursikhs should be prohibited, and how Sikh religious teachings and values should instead be propagated in accordance with Sikh principles and traditions.
The session will be joined by Dr. Sewak Singh, author of the book Shabad Jang, who has written extensively on issues concerning the visual representation of Sikh history. He will be joined by Parmjeet Singh Gazi, Editor of Sikh Siyasat News, who has also contributed to the discourse through his co-edited books titled “Khalsa Butt Na Manai Koey”.
According to the organisers, the programme is being arranged by the management committee of the Gurdwara with the objective of encouraging informed and principled discussion within the Sikh community on emerging challenges posed by modern media technologies. They further stated that the event will be conducted as an interactive discussion, during which questions from members of the audience will be taken in an orderly and respectful manner.
The organisers expressed hope that the discussion would help clarify Sikh perspectives on religious representation and strengthen community understanding of appropriate and respectful methods of Sikh prachar in contemporary times.
