In current times of global and regional instability, it is crucial for the Sikhs to establish internal processes and platforms for discussion. The Subaad Sabha, held during Holla Mohalla, has emerged as one such platform. Drawing inspiration from the Sikh historical tradition of engaging in internal dialogue during specific annual gatherings, the Subaad Sabha has been organized by the Panth Sewak Jatha Doaba for the past several years.
This year, the gathering took place on March 3, 2026, at the parav (camp) of the Panth Sewak Jatha Doaba, with the discussion centered on the “Anandpur Sahib Resolution.” Bhai Mandhir Singh delivered a presentation detailing various aspects of this historic political document. He explained how the original text, drafted by Sirdar Kapur Singh in 1973, was altered and diluted over time by various factions of the Shiromani Akali Dal, leading to the four distinct versions prevalent today.
Bhai Mandhir Singh emphasized that the discussion aimed to foster clarity and awareness. While various Sikh electoral parties frequently reference these documents in their political discourse leading up to Punjab elections, a significant lack of understanding remains among the general public, political leaders, and even scholars regarding the different versions and the resolution’s true nature. He concluded by stating that the originaSikhSovereigntywas intended as a document for the political struggle to secure a Sikh homeland, rather than a tool for electoral politics aimed merely at acquiring governing power.Political Ed
