Sikh Body Wants Indian Government to Reopen Kartarpur Sahib Corridor

The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has demanded that the government of India should reopen Kartarpur Sahib corridor for yatris. The corridor which connects Kartarpur Sahib in Narowal district of West Punjab with Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district of East Punjab was opened in November last year to allow Sikhs from eastren side to visit the sacred place of Kartarpur Sahib, once inhabited by Guru Nanak Ji.

The 2 story building of Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Sahiwal is feared to be bulldozed any time during the upcoming week. The Gurdwara is located in the commercial zone at a distance of 250 km from Sahiwal and it will be illegally sold to construct a plaza in its place.

Chandigarh, Punjab (June 15, 2013): It is learnt tht Arif Chaudhry, President of Pak-Indo Friendship Association reportedly hinted on June 14, 2013 that the Government of Pakistan may declare “Panja Sahib” as a holy city. Panja Sahib (Hassanabdal) is located near the frontier province of Pakistan. Panja Sahib is believed to house a rock with the hand prints of the founder of Sikh religion, Guru Nanak. It is considered to be a holy pilgrimage site for Sikhs all over the world and thousands of Sikh devotees pay visit to Sikh place every year.

Lahore, Pakistan (May 28, 2013):As per media reports the Government of Pakistan has decided to issue a 15 day pilgrim visa to the Sikh sangat visiting Gurudwara Dera Sahib in Lahore from East Punjab. A special train carrying 1,000 Jatha members would leave East Punjab for Pakistani Punjab on 4 June and stay until 18 June.
