Vancouver, Canada (October 29, 2013): Around 100 years after Ghadri Bhai Mewa Singh became the first Sikh from India/Punjab to be executed in Canada on charges of killing a senior British officer there, the Punjabis residing in the country are moving a petition against branding him as a criminal in the Canadian historical and legal records.

Communists from Punjab, invariably, helped in muddling up the history which for them began from 1920s as if they have nothing do with what had happened prior to that”.

Jalandhar, Punjab (August 20, 2013): In the centenary year of formation Ghadar Party, a heated academic debate is on, which started a couple of years ago, about the interpretation and understanding of this movement especially its orientation. Interestingly, two former radical leftists ( Naxalites) have authored books on the Ghadar movement - which also includes retrieving original and forgotten writing of the Ghadarites (members of the party) - to give a 'right' turn to the history of the Ghadar Party that was formed in 1913 in California.

But sometimes I wonder if the people who claim to be the big followers of Gadri Babas and organize various programs to pay homage to those great Shaheeds, really understand and follow the principles and cause of the stand taken by those great Shaheeds for which they sacrificed their lives?

Academicians and scholars gave a motivated turn to the history of the movement to make it fit for the agenda of building “single Indian nation” adopted by the Indian state. This process remained hidden for a long period in past but now the things are getting exposed.
