Washington DC: Major United States Sikh organizations have written to the US Department of Justice (DoJ) urging continued action in connection with the recent transnational assassination plot. Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) has accessed a copy of the letter.
The correspondence, written on behalf of Gurdwaras across the United States, was jointly authored by Himmat Singh, Coordinator of the Sikh Coordination Committee East Coast, and Pritpal Singh, Coordinator of the American Sikh Caucus Committee. The letter is addressed directly to the highest levels of the US justice system: Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.
Acknowledging the Thwarted Assassination
The letter arrives in the immediate aftermath of the February 13, 2026, guilty plea of Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta, who was implicated in a murder-for-hire conspiracy targeting a US citizen in New York. US authorities have said in their indictment that Nikhil Gupta acted at the direction of Vikash Yadav, who was an Indian government official and employee of India’s cabinet sectreate at that point of time.

The Sikh leaders expressed profound gratitude to the Justice Department for its swift action. They formally thanked the leadership for recognizing that federal law enforcement “prevented an American activist’s assassination on American soil.” The authors noted that intercepting the planned killing saved lives, made the public safer, and sent a definitive message that the United States will defend its people. Emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy for foreign interference, the letter stated that under President Donald Trump, murder-for-hire plots and intimidation of American citizens by foreign governments will come to an end.
“A Necessary First Step, Not a Finish Line”
Despite their praise for the recent conviction, the coordinators emphasized that “Gupta’s guilty plea is a necessary first step, not a finish line.” Noting that the co-conspirators remain at large, the authors declared that the inquiry must continue until Vikash Yadav and every individual involved faces justice in an American court.
To achieve this, the letter outlined three concrete steps requested from the Department of Justice. First, the organizations urged federal authorities to pursue full accountability up the chain of command. They asked that investigations and charging decisions be extended beyond Nikhil Gupta to include Vikash Yadav and any other coordinators, funders, or intermediaries tied to the plot.

Second, the Sikh leaders requested that the Justice Department use every lawful tool available to secure Yadav’s appearance in a US court. This includes prioritizing his arrest and extradition, as well as keeping Congress briefed on any geopolitical or legal obstacles that might require legislative policy support.
Finally, the authors of the letter asked the US government to actively protect communities from follow-on threats. While expressing gratitude for previous “duty to warn” alerts, they requested expanded guidance and outreach to at-risk communities and local law enforcement regarding foreign-directed intimidation, specifically asking for clear protocols on how to report threats and preserve evidence for future prosecutions.
High-Level Officials Copied
Underscoring the severe national security implications of the case, the authors ensured their demands reached across the federal government. Copies of the letter were forwarded to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Central Intelligence Agency Director John Ratcliffe, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Kash Patel.
The letter concluded with a steadfast offer of partnership, stating that the Sikh community stands ready to support all lawful efforts that keep Americans safe on American soil.
