Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is reportedly planning to fix graduation as the minimum qualification for managers in the 80-odd gurdwaras that are under its control. SGPC has control of historic Sikh Gurdwaras in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh.
Serving managers who already possesses the graduation degree will continue to occupy the manager’s post, while those who do not meet the new criterion will have to vacate their posts for qualified candidates.

SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said the move was aimed at ensuring that gurdwara affairs were managed efficiently.
“We intend to depute qualified managers in our gurdwaras. The proposal is under consideration and soon we will take a final call on it,” he said.
