Chandigarh, Punjab (July 22, 2012): In response to July 19 communication from Kuldip Nayar affirming his apology for hurting the sentiments of Sikh community with comments regarding Shaheed Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and Shaheed Bhai Amrik Singh, AISSF demanded that Nayar should tender his apology to Giani Gurbachan Singh Jathedar Sri Akal Takhat Sahib.
Nayar’s communication to AISSF President Peermohammad while showing his inability to remove the references of Sant Bhindranwale and Bhai Amrik Singh from the present edition promises the removal of the same from the future editions.
Sri Akal Takhat Sahib is the highest temporal seat of Sikhism which has declared Sant Bhindranwale as “Shaheed” of the Sikh nation and a memorial is being built to honor his martyrdom.
According to Karnail Singh Peermohammd, President AISSF, because Sant Bhindranwale, Bhai Amrik Singh and others laid their lives protecting the sanctity of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib and Nayar’s comments attacked the integrity of the Shaheeds of the Sikh nation therefore only Sri Akal Takhat Sahib is empowered to accept his apology. Nayar should tender his apology to Sri Akal Takhat Sahib and the Sikh nation will stand behind decision of the Sri Akal Takhat Sahib in this matter, added Peermohammad.
In his recent book “Beyond the Lines: An autobiography”, Kuldip Nayar called Shaheed Bhai Amrik Singh President All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) as “IB agent” and Shaheed Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale “creation of Congress”.
