Amritsar (June 18, 2014): At the time when Sikhs of Haryana are active to form separate SGPC for Sikh Gurdwaras of Haryana, Shiromani Akali Dal Badal, which is putting efforts to revive the Panthic agenda, faced a major blow on Tuesday after Sikhs of Maharashtra opposed the SAD initiative for enactment of All India Sikh Gurdwara Act.

A report published by Time of India (TOI) quoted member of the administrative committee of Takht Hazur Sahib Ranjit Singh Kamthekar that a meeting of Sikh leadership of Maharashtra under the aegis of five Sikh priests, including Jathedar of Takht Sri Sachkhand Hazur Sahib Baba Kulwant Singh and vice-jathedar Baba Jyotinder Singh, was held on Tuesday to oppose any effort by SAD (B) to impress upon its alliance partner BJP for the enactment of the Act.

TOI report claimed that Sangarah Committee had been formed for the purpose that would take out a silent procession from the gurdwara to district collector’s office and submit a memorandum.

“Once All India Gurdwara Act is enacted, all the gurdwaras would go under the control of SGPC which is a politically inclined party,” claimed the report quoting Ranjit Singh Kamthekar.

They were also in touch with the management of Takht Patna Sahib, Bihar, since both the Takhts were outside Punjab and had their own Maryada (Sikh code of conduct). He said SGPC couldn’t even manage its own gurdwaras, then how would it manage gurdwaras across the nation, the report further quoted Kamthekar.
