Interview with Gurjant Singh Bal on November 1984

November ’84: What Really Happened — And How Do We Make Sure It Never Happens Again?

November ’84: What Really Happened — And How Do We Make Sure It Never Happens Again?

As the situation in South Asia, particularly in India, continues to change rapidly, the shifting geopolitical landscape and evolving security dynamics between India and Pakistan have created an atmosphere of uncertainty for Punjab and the Sikh community. In this context, it is essential for Sikhs to critically study their recent past—especially the post-1947 period, with particular attention to the events of 1984 and the years that followed.

In the past five years, a young Sikh researcher, Gurjant Singh Bal, has travelled across India to collect information and interview witnesses and survivors of November ’84. His research reveals that the November ’84 events were far more widespread than portrayed by the Indian media and the Indian state under the misleading label of “Delhi r+io-ts.

Journalist Mandeep Singh speaks with Gurjant Singh Bal, who has authored two books in the series titled “Sikh Nas+al+kushi da Khura Khoj” (Footprints of Sikh G+en-0-c1de) and “Sirf Delhi Nahin.” The conversation explores various aspects of Gurjant Singh’s research and his key findings.
