Phagwara, Punjab (August 16, 2014): According to information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), one Harwinder Singh of Phagwara was arrested by Punjab police on 14 August, 2014 from his Phagwara based residence. He was produced before Duty Magistrate Hoshiarpur on 15 Aug 2014 and sent to judicial Custody till 28 Aug. 2014.
Harwinder Singh alias Billa S/O Tarsem Singh is permanent resident of VPO Todarpur, Distt. Hoshiarpur. He was presently residing at Phagwara, Distt. Kapurthala.
According to information Harwinder Singh already had undergone 5 years imprisonment in two cases of 307 IPC and 25/54/59 of Arms Act in Mumbai (Maharashtra) from 1995 to 2001, though he was also acquitted in a murder case in 2000. He was at home since his release from Pune Jail 18-04-2001 and residing at Phagwara with his family.
According to Harwinder Singh’s lawyer, he is now arrested by Phagwara police in a 1988 case – FIR no. 19, dated 04-02-1988, under sections 392, 397 IPC, 25/54/59 Arms Act and 5 TADA at police Sadar Hoshiarpur.
Though Harwinder Singh was living in Punjab since 2001 and before that he was in judicial custody for a long period. Moreover he was also granted Passport after Police enquiry and residing as normal citizen without changing his name or address.
