Faridkot, Punjab: The brutal assault on Dr Harish Chander – a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and an RTI activist, in Jaitu has reportedly put the police in a spot as the family members allege that while Dr Harish was struggling for life, the police had registered only a “mild” case under Sections 308, 324 and 325 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Dr. Harish Chander had reportedly released a pamphlet on “pilferage” of MC funds and unwarranted expenditure on the vehicle of a Badal Dal leader. His family members allege that Dr Harish Chander was brutally attacked by ten persons allegedly at the instance of concerned Badal Dal leader on Saturday (Feb. 01) evening.
He suffered multiple fractures and head injuries. He is undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of a hospital in Amritsar and is unable to give his statement to the police.
The police claimed the attack was the result of a provocation and was not a pre-planned conspiracy. Gurjit Singh Romana, DSP, said they had registered a case on the basis of preliminary information.
