300 Years Commemoration Webinar “1726 Sarbat Khalsa – Relevance in the Present Context”

Canada | March 30, 2026: With the blessings of Akal Purakh and Guru Sahib, the 300 Years Commemoration Webinar, “1726 Sarbat Khalsa – Relevance in the Present Context,” held on March 30, 2026, was successfully conducted online via Zoom. This milestone event, marking a 300-year commemoration, brought together a global audience of scholars and representatives from various Panthic organizations via Zoom.

The discussion in this webinar attempted to present meaningful dialogue on Panthic governance, collective decision-making, and the role of the Sangat in Guru-centered processes (such as Sarbat Khalsa, Panch-Pardhani, and Gurmatta), inspiring thoughtful discussion on collaboration across Sikh organizations, the impact of colonial frameworks, and the need for Panthic unity grounded in Gurmat principles. The way guest speaker Dr. Kanwaljit Singh organically connected historical, doctrinal, and contemporary perspectives, helping us reflect on the spirit and relevance of the 1726 Sarbat Khalsa with clarity and depth in today’s context, was deeply insightful. It was encouraging to see the Sangat engage with these important themes.

The event was met with high praise from attendees, with many noting the depth of the research and the timeliness of the dialogue. Feedback gathered from participants highlights the impact of the session. “The selection of the speaker for this topic was the best,” noted participant S. Singh, while another participant anonymously highlighted that the topic was “well researched by both the moderator and the guest speaker.” Attendees emphasized the Panthic collaboration and coordination among each other to revive core Sikh institutions for the Chardikala of the Panth. Santbir Singh of the Sikh Research Institute and the Free Akal Takht Team highlighted the need to move away from “colonized thinking” and return to Gurmat-based frameworks in matters of Panthic organization and decision-making. Manbir Singh Sandhu from the World Sikh Parliament appreciated the initiative to “effort to initiate a dialogue” and expressed hope that such discussions would help “establish a narrative that enhances the Panth’s approach towards greater unity.”

The organizers (Windsor Sikh Panthic Jatha, Misl Windsor, and the UWindsor Sikh Students Association) were humbled by the uplifting participation, noting that 89 attendees joined the session, with a significant number remaining engaged throughout the two-hour deep academic discussion.

In the spirit of continuous improvement and serving the Guru Khalsa Panth, organizers are currently collecting additional insights through a formal feedback process. These reflections will guide the development of future initiatives aimed at building spaces for Gurmat vichaar, Panthic dialogue, and Collective growth.
