RTI Commission denies information on promotions of Punjab cops during militancy period

The period of 1980s to mid-90s in Punjab was marred blatant, systematic and widespread human rights abuses and police atrocities. Many cases have come into light now where the police officials had killed innocent Sikh youth to claim "head-money" declared against Sikh militant leaders.

Various political parties held political conference at Mukatsar Sahib on Jan. 14 during annual Maghi mela. The state leadership of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) decided to attend the political conference held by Badal Dal. Previously it was suspected that BJP leaders may skip this years conference in wake of changing equations of the ruling alliance in Punjab.

Media reports say that the maiden political conference of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at the Maghi Mela in Mukatsar attracted a impressive crowd. All four AAP MPs and state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur addressed the rally. AAP leaders focused on the drug issue and gave the slogan of “Nasha Mukt, Badal Mukt Punjab” (durgs free, Badal free Punjab).

US court dismisses 2002 Gujrat Massacre related lawsuit against Narendra Modi on ‘immunity’ grounds

A New York judge has reportedly dismissed lawsuit against Indian Prime Minister and former Gurjrat state Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The lawsuit filed by The American Justice Centre, a human rights group, had accused Narendra Modi for deliberate failure to stop 2002 massacre of Muslim minority population in Gujarat.
