Ludhiana: The Panch Pardhani Panthak Jatha, a collective of esteemed Panth Sewak personalities, has strongly condemned efforts to sow discord between the Sikh and Scheduled Caste communities through acts of disrespect toward Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar. In a joint written statement issued on April 8, 2025, the Jatha emphasized that Dr. Ambedkar dedicated his life to securing dignity and equality for marginalized sections of society, making any disrespect toward him utterly deplorable.
The Jatha accused the Indian state and the ruling BJP of pursuing a deliberate policy to drive a wedge between Sikhs and Scheduled Castes in Punjab, aiming to deepen political polarization. They pointed to recent incidents targeting Dr. Ambedkar’s statues as alarming evidence of this agenda. The group clarified that Dr. Ambedkar bears no responsibility for certain provisions in the Indian Constitution, such as Explanation II of Clause 2(b) of Article 25.
In their statement, originally issued in Punjabi (a copy of which is available with Sikh Siyasat News), the Jatha highlighted Dr. Ambedkar’s lifelong commitment to the rights of the downtrodden, pursued through both intellectual rigor and activism. They noted his amicable relationship with the Sikh community, including his expressed interest in embracing Sikhism. Although contemporary circumstances prevented him from joining the Sikh fold, he ultimately renounced Hinduism and adopted Buddhism.
The Jatha underscored that the Sikh Gurus have instructed the Sikhs to protect the weak and oppose oppressors, encapsulated in the principle of “Garib Di Rakhya Ate Jarvane Di Bhakhya” (Protect the poor and resist the tyrant). They described the Sikh struggle for Khalistan as a movement to establish an equitable and just society—akin to the ideal of Beghampura and a Halemi Raj—dedicated to the welfare of all, in line with the Sikh ethos of “Sarbat Da Bhala” (the well-being of all). The statement emphasized that the Khalistan movement is inclusive, extending beyond Sikhs to encompass all communities.
The Panch Pardhani Panthak Jatha vehemently denounced attempts to associate the Khalistan struggle with acts of disrespect toward Dr. Ambedkar. They urged Sikhs to remain vigilant against those exploiting such incidents to create divisions between Dalits and Sikhs.
