On April 10, 2025, a new Punjabi film titled Akaal, starring Gippy Grewal, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Nimrat Khaira, Jarnail Singh, and other prominent faces of the Pollywood industry, was released. However, the film’s screening sparked widespread protests by Sikh activists, who raised objections to the portrayal of Baana (traditional Khalsa attire) in the movie.

These protests not only stirred controversy around Akaal movie but also reignited a larger debate about the representation of Sikhs and Sikh history in cinema.

In an exclusive interview, journalist Mandeep Singh spoke with Pardeep Singh Ayali and other Sikh activists from the Sikh Youth Power of Punjab (SYPP) to understand their perspective on the issue.
