Gurdwara Guru Nanak Sahib, Vilvoorde, Belgium Remains Closed

Gurdwara Guru Nanak Sahib, Vilvoorde, Belgium was closed by Mayor Hans Bonte for one month in October upon allegations of harbouring illegal immigrants. The Gurdwara will now remain closed until at least 11 December 2014 pending consultation between the police, the prosecutor, the city and the Immigration Department. “There are indications that a network of illegal trafficking and smuggling has been recovered and it is therefore a tentative reopening does not arise,” says Mayor Bonte.

Fire Damages Gurdwara in Ariyankuppam

Puducherry, India: A fire broke out in a two-room building housing a Sikh Gurdwara at Ariyankuppam on Sunday night. Superintendent of Police (Rural) Deivasigamoni said nobody was present in the building at the time of the blaze. The furniture and some gunny bags were gutted and the building suffered some damage, he added.

Jagraon police gets 3 days police remand of Bhai Harminder Singh Mintoo in a 2010 case

Jagraon police today secured police remand of Bhai Harminder Singh Mintoo for three days. A police party led by DSP Satnam Singh and Inspector Rajesh Kumar brought Harmindr Singh Mintoo from Kapurthala jail on production warrants. Police party presented him before DSJM (Jagraon) Gurbir Singh’s court and demanded 10 days police remand in a case pertaining to F.I.R. number 8/2010 under sections 4 and 5 of Explosives Act. This case was registered at Sidhar Police station falling under Ludhiana rural police district.

Four policemen sentenced to imprisonment for life in 1993 enforced disappearance case

A CBI court yesterday (Dec. 01) awarded life imprisonment to four policemen, three of them from Uttar Pradesh, for abducting and then killing a Khanna resident in a fake encounter. In October 1993, these policemen from UP and Punjab subjected a Sikh youth to enforced disappearances and eliminated him declaring him a ‘terrorist’, to get promotions.
