The Untold Story of Sikh Rule in Punjab During the Sikh Misls Era | Parmjeet Singh Gazi

In this speech, Sikh Siyasat’s editor Parmjeet Singh Gazi explores the untold story of Sikh rule in Punjab during the Sikh Misls era. He explains how historians have noted that it was such a just and equitable rule that people in many regions themselves invited the Sikh Sardars to establish their authority in their areas.

At that time, Amritsar was a large and thriving city — even bigger than Lahore — and the hardworking class across Punjab was among the most prosperous in the region. The administration of the Sikh Misls was founded on the principles of equality and justice, and the Misls safeguarded the people against both external invasions and internal plundering.

The Akalis of the Akal Bunga (Akal Takht), though smaller in number, held a supreme and respected position. They mediated disputes between the Sardars of different Misls, and any complaint against a Sardar would also be addressed by them. Sikh warriors were well-trained, physically strong, and highly skilled in the use of the various weapons of their time.
