Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has begun the process of sending a Sikh jatha to Pakistan in April 2026 for the Khalsa Sajna Diwas (Visakhi) celebrations at Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib, Hassan Abdal, along with visits to other historic gurdwaras. As part of the preparations, the SGPC has asked interested devotees to submit their passports to the Committee’s headquarters by 25 December.

Providing details, SGPC Secretary S. Pratap Singh said that the jatha will participate in the main Visakhi event at Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib and will also visit other Sikh heritage sites across Pakistan. He informed that devotees wishing to join the jatha must deposit their passports with the SGPC’s Travel Department by the specified date.

He further added that applicants are required to obtain a recommendation letter from the SGPC member of their respective constituency. In addition, they must submit a photocopy of their Aadhaar card or voter ID as proof of identity.

It is noteworthy that travel between India and Pakistan has been suspended since the four-day aerial conflict between the two countries in May. However, last month a Sikh jatha was granted permission to visit Pakistan for the celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Parkash Purab. That pilgrimage was approved by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of External Affairs after police and central intelligence agencies conducted the necessary security verifications.
