Sacramento, California (May 12, 2014): According to certain media reports [A]ssembly Member Roger Dickinson introduced the Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 147 (ACR 147) to establish November as “Sikh American Awareness and Appreciation Month” in California.

“The resolution seeks to give Californians an opportunity to better understand, recognise, and appreciate the rich history and shared principles of the Sikh Americans”, The Tribune has reported.

“The Sikh American community is an integral thread in the fabric of California history,” said Dickinson, “California’s Sikh American Awareness and Appreciation Month calls attention to the many contributions to California by Sikh Americans and denounces discrimination against Sikhs.”

“The Sikh American community has contributed significantly to the Californian history. The Sikhs entered California in 1899 and it was not until 1946 that a legislation was enacted to authorise Sikhs to become US citizens. The Sikh American community has excelled in a various fields such as agriculture and social service” reads a news reported by The Tribune (TT), a Chandigarh based vernacular.
