Ludhiana, Punjab (March 06, 2014): Bains brothers of Ludhaina have once again raised rebel flag against their party Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), that could turn Ludhiana seat in to a multi-cornered contest. As the ruling Badal Dal has announced Dakha MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali as it’s official candidate for Lok Sabha elections, Simarjeet Singh Bains, younger of two Bains brothers, has announced to contest Lok Sabha Election from Ludhiana as an Independent candidate.

The Bains brothers – Balwinder Singh and Simarjeet Singh – had successfully contested last Punjab assembly election from two constituencies of Ludhiana as rebel candidates. After their victory they had merged with the Badal Dal as “associate-members”.

However, the Bains brothers in a meeting at Kot Mangal Dass on March 05 declared that Simarjeet Bains would be fighting election as an Independent.

“The two brothers, flanked by 18 councillors out of total 75 councillors of Ludhiana said that they had told SAD to field Simarjeet as SAD candidate, an offer which was turned down by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal” YesPunjab (YP) has noted.

They claimed that they were offered the status of Chief Parliamentary Secretary and Chairmen, which they refused as these were mere ‘lollipops’.

The Bains Brothers announced that they would be fielding their own candidates on all the seats of Ludhiana during the next Vidhan Sabha Elections.

They also announced that they won’t be joining hands with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) or the Congress.

The Ludhiana seat is at present represented by Congress leader and Union Minister Manish Tewari who is likely to be named as party candidate again. APP has fielded Supreme Court lawyer cum activist Harvinder Singh Phoolka who has been fighting cases of 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom victims.
