New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has scheduled March 18, 2026, to hear the petition of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, who is facing the death sentence in the case concerning former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. Bhai Rajoana has sought the commutation of his death sentence to life imprisonment, citing the delay in deciding his constitutional review petition.

The Supreme Court heard the appeal on Wednesday (February 18). According to a report published in the ‘Ajit’ daily newspaper, Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, referred to the Supreme Court’s order dated September 24, 2025. This order had stated that no further petition seeking more time for the consideration of the constitutional review petition pending before the President of India would be entertained.

Rohatgi’s remarks came after the lawyer appearing for the Central Government sought more time to consider the petition.
